PE News:  National guidelines recommend that school-age children should be getting 60 minutes of physical activity daily.  This can come in a variety of ways.  Students have 30 minutes of recess daily that will contribute to that number.  Students who have PE that day will typically achieve their goal, but students should look to be physically active at home.  They can play outside, ride their bikes, go for a walk, join a sports team.  Students have also learned many exercises in PE class that can be done indoors in a small space.  Be sure to include a variety of activities that increase heart rate (walking, running, biking, swimming) as well as weight-bearing exercises (jumping jacks, squats, push-ups, climbing, etc).
